The Standing Commissions
of
The General Assembly
These are the authorized Mandates for each Standing Commission of the General Assembly:
Standing Commission on Constitution and Canons
The Standing Commission on Constitution and Canons reviews proposed amendments to the Constitution and Canons as may be submitted to the Commission, placing each such proposed amendment in proper Constitutional or Canonical form.
Furthermore, the Standing Commission on Constitution and Canons conducts a comprehensive review of the Constitution and Canons with respect to their internal consistency and clarity, and on the basis of such a review propose to the General Assembly such technical amendments to the Constitution and Canons.
Standing Commission on Ecumenical Relations
The Standing Commission on Ecumenical Relations develops comprehensive and coordinated policies and strategies on relations between this Church and other Churches. The Standing Commission of Ecumenical Relations further makes recommendations to the General Assembly concerning inter-church cooperation and unity, and carry out such instructions on ecumenical matters as may be given it from time to time by the General Assembly. It shall also nominate for appointment by the Apostolic Overseer, with advice and consent of the Executive Committee, persons to serve on the governing bodies of ecumenical organizations to which this Church belongs by action of the General Assembly and to participate in major conferences as convened by such organizations.
Standing Commission on Health
The Standing Commission on Health studies and concern itself with the theological, ethical and pastoral questions inherent in the subjects considered. Members of this Commission shall include representatives of a broad diversity of scientific and medical disciplines.
Standing Commission on Human Affairs
The Standing Commission on Human Affairs studies and concern itself with the theological, ethical and pastoral questions inherent in the subjects considered. Members of this Commission shall include representatives of a broad diversity of phycological and social disciplines.
Standing Commission on the Church in Metropolitan Areas
The Standing Commission on the Church in Metropolitan Areas develops recommendations and strategies which will be of concrete assistance to the Church in Metropolitan Areas in shaping new patterns of mission.
Standing Commission on Peace with Justice
The Standing Commission on Peace with Justice develops recommendations and strategies which will be of concrete assistance to this Church in furthering the work on issues of Peace with Justice.
Standing Commission on the Structure of the Church
The Standing Commission on the Structure of the Church studies and make recommendations concerning the structure of the General Assembly and of the Church. It reviews the operation of the several Committees and Commissions to determine the necessity for their continuance and the effectiveness of their functions and to bring about a coordination of their efforts. Whenever a proposal is made for the creation of a new Committee or Commission, it is referred to the Standing Commission on the Structure of the Church for its consideration and advice.
Standing Commission on World Mission
The Standing Commission on World Mission reviews, evaluate, plan and propose policy on overseas mission to the General Assembly.
Standing Commission on Stewardship and Development
The Standing Commission of Stewardship and Development recommends strategies for stewardship education throughout the Church with special sensitivity to the cultural and linguistic diversity of our Church. The Standing Commission of Stewardship and Development also recommends programs for long-range planning and development in coordination with other Church bodies, including the Executive Committee. It coordinates all church-wide fund-raising activities.
Standing Commission on Evangelism
The Standing Commission on Evangelism holds up before the Church the needs and opportunities for the exercise of the Church’s ministry of evangelism. The Standing Commission on Evangelism develop policy and recommend appropriate action by the General Assembly, the Executive Committee and the several Dioceses.
In addition to the Standing Commissions, the General Assembly is authorized by Canonical Law to form Joint Standing Committees such as:
The Joint Standing Committee on Planning and Arrangements for the General Assembly
The Joint Standing Committee on Planning and Arrangements for the General Assembly is responsible for the organization of future meetings of the General Assembly, including identification of sites, times, and dates for consideration by the General Assembly.
The Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Apostolic Overseer
The Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Apostolic Overseer is responsible for the preparation of the initial Names of Recommendation for Apostolic Session, which is kept under secrecy, but reviewed annually or in the event a Recommended Name(s) no longer meets the criteria constituted pursuant to Canonical Law. Only the Apostolic Realm called to order under the provisions of the Constitution and Canons for a Consistory for Apostolic Session may elect the Apostolic Overseer.
Committee on the State of the Church
The Committee on the State of the Church is responsible for the collection of reports and journals from all Unit Churches, Area Missions, Dioceses, and Archdioceses of this Church for the purpose of presenting an accurate account of the State of the Church to the General Assembly.
